Someone in a Lightroom Facebook group asked if he should make multiple catalogs for his personal vs a private organization. My response:

I have two large hard drives with images (my early punk pix in one, digital photos and clip art in other), and variety of topics in one catalog.

Wedding and lifestyle photographers tend to make one catalog per client. That would drive me nuts, but I don’t do what they do. My early punk pix are on one drive. My clip art and digital photos on another drive. Only because of room, nothing else. One catalog.

I use all these photos for various projects.

However, I am creating classes. Sometimes I record in main catalog. Sometimes I only record in a class specific catalog. Not sure why I do that. Concerned about showing whole catalog to hackers. What the heck, if they wanna get in, they get in.

Naming folder and files is vital.

I use Hoodah Spot to find files and Folders in my iMac. LR search sucks.

Just one artist/photographer/teacher/opinionated woman’s POV. Ask to join to read the whole thread Lightroom Catalogs (if you wish). Mostly photos, but I found this question. That’s all I want. I don’t want to see photos or art. I spend way too much time loving and commenting. Art, classes and posts calling me away.
